Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect in my first session?

Getting Started

Your first session is all about getting the lay of the land so we can support you without guessing. We’ll go through the consent form together and cover anything you need to know about how therapy works here — clear, transparent, no hidden fine print.

Structured Questions to Understand You

From there, we’ll ask some structured questions to help us understand the who’s-who and what’s-what of your world. That does not mean you have to spill every detail of your life story in the first 50 minutes. We’re just gathering the essentials so we can start shaping a treatment plan that actually fits you.

What We Cover

We’ll touch on your family of origin, your support system, how things are going at work or school, and the basics: sleep, food, movement, stress, and mental health symptoms.

You’re in the Driver’s Seat

And honestly? From the first session onward, you’re in the driver’s seat. We’ve got the map, a few ideas for pit stops, a mental checklist for snacks and fuel, and yes… maybe a gentle nudge toward that place you’ve been avoiding and secretly hoping we wouldn’t ask about (LOL, growth gets real). But we go at your pace, with your consent, toward the life you’re trying to build — together.

How long are therapy sessions, and how often should I attend?

Individual Therapy

For individual clients, the first session is typically 75 minutes to give us extra time to cover everything we need and complete initial assessments. Follow-up sessions are generally 50 minutes, but they don’t have to be fixed. If you feel like you’re always getting to the “good part” right at the end, you can ask for longer sessions. Your therapist may be able to accommodate 90-minute sessions or even intensives lasting a few hours when needed.

Couples Therapy

For couples, we meet with each member individually first to assess safety and ensure therapy is appropriate for the couple in front of us. Individual sessions are 50 minutes, and then we meet together as a couple. If you have concerns about emotional safety or any other issues, please be candid with us — your wellbeing is our priority.

Family Therapy

Family therapy depends on who needs to attend and how many people are involved. We may start with everyone together, or work individually with family members similar to our couples approach. These logistics are planned during the connection call part of your client journey so therapy can fit your family’s needs.

Frequency of Therapy

Most clients start with weekly or biweekly sessions. Monthly sessions can feel too infrequent to notice progress, so we recommend discussing frequency with your therapist. If finances or insurance coverage are a concern, we can help you figure out a schedule that maximizes support while working within your budget.

Do you offer virtual or in-person therapy?

We offer both virtual and in-person therapy services from Monday to Friday, but every therapist keeps a slightly different schedule. That means you may not be able to get in-person sessions on the days that work best for you.

Virtual appointments follow the same general schedule, but our staff prioritizes seeing in-person clients on the days therapists are in the office. Scheduling your sessions will be done with your individual therapist to match their availability with yours.

Some therapists offer both in-person and virtual sessions, some offer only virtual, and some have in-person sessions just one day a week. To make sure the therapist you want to work with fits your schedule and preferences, ask about this during your connection call — it’s the best way to find a setup that works for you.

Do you offer sliding scale or reduced-fee therapy spots?

At this time, we do not offer sliding scale or reduced-fee spots. We hope to be able to provide this option in the future as our team grows and expands.

What’s your cancellation policy?

We ask that appointments be cancelled at least 48 hours in advance. Automated reminders are sent at the 48-hour mark, but if it’s after that window, you won’t be able to cancel online and may need to reach out to your therapist directly.

We do our best to be fair, but it’s important to remember that if you reserve a time in our calendar, it can be difficult to fill that spot. Our work is different from other healthcare providers, where schedules can sometimes be more flexible. If you’re seeing us biweekly, we keep that time just for you and don’t take on new patients during that slot to avoid burnout and ensure consistent care.

That said, we understand that life happens and emergencies come up. We do our best to accommodate cancellation or rescheduling requests whenever possible.

How do I know if I might have ADHD as an adult?

Adult ADHD can look different for everyone. Genetics, attention patterns, and self‑assessment tools like the ASRS v1.1 on Embrace Autism can help you start noticing if it might be relevant for you.

If you’re considering a formal diagnosis, your family doctor is a good place to start. We’ve also partnered with Psychotherapy Matters to support clients in accessing psychiatric consultations when appropriate, so you can get the guidance and resources you need.

Our team is here to help you explore ADHD at your own pace and figure out the next steps — whether that’s therapy, assessment, or both.
